Toad Houses also appear on the world maps, coming in four different types. Of course, this can be avoided if the player replays the solid red levels, and beats them on their own. Before switching, there is also a warning regarding this, giving the player a yes or no option. Upon switching to Standard Mode, the player will be taken back to the last level they beat legitimately. However, using Assist Mode incurs a major penalty. When a level is completed with the Super Guide, its space will become solid red. There are also hints as to where Power Stars are located in levels. In Assist Mode, a Super Guide Block appears after the player dies several times in a level. The main game has two modes Standard Mode and Assist Mode, which the player can switch between from the pause menu on world maps. Most bosses also take five hits to defeat, rather than three. Players can switch their characters from the pause menu on world maps. 3, this game is geared towards experienced players. This was done in response to the criticism of lives being deemed "useless" in the New Super Mario Bros. While this game does have lives, they always reset each time the player starts up the game. When a character is at one hit point, they transform into their small form. Each character has five hit points, although there are no items to permanently increase a character's health. Each level is also intended to have its own unique, creative design, much like Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. series, the graphics of this game resemble the Super Mario 3D World theme from Super Mario Maker 2. In response to the criticism of the 2.5D graphics of the New Super Mario Bros. The game is also notable for having its own art style.
